ARWAL: Arwal district president of the Scheduled Castes cell of the RJD Jogendra Manjhi has gone missing since Sunday afternoon. In an FIR lodged with the Karpi police station, Raj Kumari Devi, wife of Jogendra Manjhi, has stated that following a phone call on Sunday, Manjhi had gone to meet Bholi Sharma, the husband of Narga panchayat mukhiya and since then he has not returned home.
In the FIR, she has charged six persons including Bholi Sharma, Dharmendra Yadav and Basant Kumar, both SPOs of the area, with kidnapping her husband.
Meanwhile, hundreds of
RJD activists on Tuesday staged a massive dharna in front of the Karpi police station demanding immediate recovery of the kidnapped and arrest of those named in the FIR. The day-long dharna was addressed among others by the former minister and MLA Surendra Prasad Yadav, former MP Ramji Manjhi, former MLA Shiv Bachan Yadav and former MLA Suresh Paswan.
Talking to newspersons at the dharna site, former minister Surendra Prasad Yadav said the kidnapping of a Mahadalit RJD activist Jogendra Manjhi brings into sharp focus the strengthening of the criminals-police nexus in the erstwhile Naxal strongholds in the twin districts of Arwal and Jehanabad. He threatened to intensify the stir if the police fail to secure safe release of the kidnapped activist and arrest the named accused within a couple of days.
Arwal SP Anand Kumar Singh said a special police team was making every effort to secure safe release of the kidnapped and a manhunt is also on to arrest all the named accused.
